Animal Welfare Column: Follow in footsteps of Paul O’Grady

If you like seeing where television programmes are made, then don’t miss the opportunity to tour Battersea Dogs and Cats Home which is the setting for the award winning programme Paul O’Grady: For the love of Dogs.

At weekends until July 7th, Battersea is running “Behind the Screens” tours enabling visitors to see key areas where the series is filmed. There are two tours an hour from 11am to 3:30pm.

Whilst there, you may catch a glimpse of Scooby. He was brought to Battersea because his owner did not have permission from his landlord to keep him. Housing difficulties are a common reason for people not being able to keep a dog. If you’re in rented accommodation and having difficulty keeping your pet, have a look at Dogs Trust’s, Lets with Pets website (www.letswithpets.org.uk). This gives lots of information for pet owners, landlords and letting agents about privately renting with pets.

Scooby is a seven year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who loves the outdoors. He walks wonderfully on the lead and would make a great partner for any reader who likes rambling.  He needs to learn to trust people again so he is looking for an owner who will take time to build a bond with him. Scooby’s stay at Battersea has already been three times longer than average but he is hoping to be homed in time to see some of the countryside this Summer. If you can offer Scooby a loving home, contact Battersea on 0843 509444.
